However, during their on-site activities, officers determined that the events had unfolded differently. Their findings showed that the woman had been traveling as a passenger in a Volkswagen Golf driven by her 52-year-old acquaintance, a resident of Lwówek County.

While driving, the man lost control of the vehicle and drove into a roadside ditch. The passenger was injured, while the man left the scene, abandoning her without assistance.

License plates from another car and a World War II projectile fuze

While inspecting the Volkswagen, police uncovered further disturbing facts. It turned out that the registration plates fitted to the vehicle had come from another car.

That was not the end of the findings. Under the driver’s seat, officers found an artillery-shell fuze from World War II. The item was secured by officers from the Independent Counter-Terrorist Police Unit in Wrocław.

Officers began searching for the 52-year-old.

Further traffic incidents the following day

The search ended the following evening.

First, the man was involved in a collision in Lwówek County. Then—again in Nowa Świdnica—he hit a lighting pole. The 52-year-old was arrested at the scene.

Police suspected that he might have been driving under the influence of alcohol or intoxicating substances. Blood was taken from him for laboratory testing. Only the results will establish whether he was under the influence of any substances at the time of the incidents.

Methamphetamine found at his home

That was still not the end. During a search of the arrested man’s residence, police found methamphetamine, which they secured for further procedural activities.

On Monday, the 52-year-old was brought before the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lubań, where he was charged. The court will decide his future.
