Kacper Goluda comes from a small town near Lublin, but Bolesławiec became his starting base. This is where he set off by hitchhiking on his journey to Africa. The plan is ambitious. The route is long. The road journey alone is approximately 3,200–3,300 kilometres. He has to cross half of Europe and take a ferry to Morocco.
“I want to reach the territory of Western Sahara, and in addition I will climb the highest peak in North Africa, which lies in the Atlas Mountains,” Kacper says. “I dedicated the journey to Piotruś, who has DMD. I am trying to raise money for him during this journey,” the young man added.
Kacper proved that it is possible to reach Africa quickly by hitchhiking. Just seven days after setting out from Bolesławiec, he was in Chefchaouen (Szefszawan), the blue city in northern Morocco.
Every day, he visits another city in the Kingdom of Morocco. His journey can be followed on Instagram and TikTok.
He is travelling to help Piotruś
The most important thing about this expedition, however, is neither the peak nor the kilometres. During the journey, Kacper is raising money for five-year-old Piotruś Szliwa. Piotruś has Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). It is a severe disease that was incurable until recently. It gradually takes away the child’s strength, ability to breathe and independence.
The boy’s parents write directly: without the world’s most expensive medicine, which can stop the disease, Piotruś will die. The medicine costs PLN 15 million. It all began in 2021. Piotruś was then admitted to hospital with severe pneumonia. Routine tests revealed very high liver enzyme levels. Doctors reassured the family that this was an effect of the treatment. Later, it turned out to be the first sign of a terrible disease.
Now time is of the essence. That is why Kacper asks people to speak openly about the fundraiser for Piotruś during his journey from Bolesławiec to Africa.
