Lower Silesian police conducted the provincial “Alcohol and Drugs” operation from October 10 to 12. Traffic officers checked drivers’ sobriety and identified people who had decided to drive after drinking alcohol or while under the influence of drugs.
In Bolesławiec County, police checked nearly 2,000 drivers. During the operation, they detained three people who had been driving after drinking. Two had consumed alcohol but were not intoxicated, while one was intoxicated. All three had their driving licences suspended.
The scale of the problem was considerably greater across the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. During the three-day operation, police tested a total of 44,307 drivers. They identified 75 people who had driven after consuming alcohol, including 47 drivers who were intoxicated.
Officers also detected 17 people who had driven vehicles while under the influence of drugs. During the checks, they additionally suspended 68 driving licences.
During the provincial operation, police also identified 18 drivers who had driven vehicles despite a court-imposed driving ban or revoked driving licences.
Police remind the public that driving after drinking alcohol poses a threat to everyone using the roads. Even if a driver does not feel the obvious effects of alcohol consumption, their ability to drive safely may be impaired.
