The Jelenia Góra court arrested six Border Guard officers working at the Jędrzychowice crossing on charges of accepting bribes

The suspects enabled smugglers and illegal immigrants seeking to enter Germany to cross the border. The guards took 100 złoty per person. The Jelenia Góra prosecutor’s office charged 30 border guards. Among them are rank-and-file officers as well as shift supervisors.

The case began in October 2002 with the detention at the Jędrzychowice crossing of 19 Ukrainian women who wanted to cross the border into Germany using Polish passports. They were travelling to Italy for work. Poles who were supposed to help them cross the Polish-German border were also detained at that time. They told investigators about their contacts among the border guards—who they had paid bribes to and how much. Unofficially, it is said that the arrests are not over yet.
