Officers from the Criminal Division of the District Police Headquarters in Lubin identified and detained two men suspected of theft and property damage. The case concerns an energy transformer that was stolen at the end of August from the Lubin municipality area.
The transformer belonged to the Municipal Water and Sewage Company in Lubin. The losses were initially estimated at approximately PLN 90,000.
Criminal investigators from the Lubin headquarters had been handling the case from the outset. As a result of their operational activities, they identified people who might have been connected with the crime.
The officers then went to a property identified in Polkowice County. They found a 24-year-old man there. It turned out that he was wanted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Szczecin.
During a search of the living quarters, outbuildings and garages, the police found components of the stolen transformer. (A representative of MPWiK in Lubin confirmed their origin.)
That was not the end of it. Near a trailer, in a refrigerator, the police found components of electrical cabinet equipment, including disconnectors and fuses. Representatives of Tauron identified the secured items.
License plates were also found there. The officers’ findings indicate that they may have been used in another crime—the theft of transformer oil. There was also an electric pump with cables that could have been used to commit the offense.
The recovered items were handed over to their owners.
The 24-year-old was detained. His accomplice, a 30-year-old resident of Polkowice, was subsequently apprehended by the officers. Both suspects were charged with theft and property damage. The total losses they allegedly caused were estimated at nearly PLN 140,000.
The police are still checking the origin of all the secured items. They are also verifying whether the detained men have committed more crimes of this type.
