During a patrol, officers from the Police Station in Nowogrodziec noticed a van whose technical condition raised their doubts. When the driver saw the police car, he began accelerating. The officers decided to stop the vehicle for inspection, using visual and audible signals.

The driver, however, had no intention of complying with the police officers' order. Instead of stopping the van, he began fleeing.

At one point, the man drove off the road and onto a field. His vehicle was immobilized there, and the police arrested the driver.

The person behind the wheel was a 36-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County. Officers determined that the man had never held a driving licence. In addition, the van he was driving did not have the mandatory third-party liability insurance.

That was not the end of the matter, however. A drug test conducted at the scene indicated that the 36-year-old may have been driving under the influence of intoxicating substances. Biological material was collected from the man for further testing, which is intended to confirm or rule out the presence of drugs in his body.

The police also determined that the 36-year-old had previously been known to officers in connection with drug-related and property crimes.

The man was charged with failing to stop for a traffic check and driving under the influence of intoxicating substances. He faces up to five years in prison for the alleged offenses.

(The final determination as to whether the 36-year-old was actually driving under the influence of intoxicating substances will depend on the test results.)
