More than PLN 1.5 million was allegedly defrauded as part of a scheme involving fictitious investments. The District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec is investigating two Ukrainian nationals, aged 22 and 23, suspected of participating in an organised criminal group involved in fraud.
The investigation established that the suspects carried out their scheme in July 2026 in Bolesławiec and other locations across the country. They acted together with other individuals who have not yet been identified.
The group’s modus operandi allegedly involved offering fictitious investments online. The perpetrators posted advertisements encouraging potential victims to invest money in, among other things, currencies, company shares and energy commodities.
The victims were persuaded that such investments would bring them high returns. As a result, they handed over a total of more than PLN 1.5 million to the fraudsters.
Moreover, investigators established that the two suspects collected money directly at the victims’ homes and then handed it over to other, as yet unidentified individuals who allegedly directed the group’s activities.
The investigation also showed that one of the suspects allegedly committed similar offences in the Suwałki and Głubczyce areas.
Both men confessed to the offences they were accused of and gave statements. At the prosecutor’s request, they were remanded in custody. They face between one and 10 years in prison for the alleged offences. Neither had previously been convicted.
The case is developing. Investigators are carrying out further activities aimed, among other things, at identifying additional victims and apprehending the remaining members of the group.
