Residents of Wrocław went to the Lower Silesian Forests to pick mushrooms. However, the trip did not go according to plan. At one point, the seniors lost their bearings and were unable to determine either exactly where they were or which direction they should take to reach their parked car.
The mushroom pickers entered the forest from the direction of Lubusz Voivodeship. When they realized that they could not find their way back, they decided to call the emergency number 112 and ask for help.
Police officers from the Kruszyn Police Station were dispatched to the scene. The officers began searching for the seniors. Initially, they tried to contact the group using sound signals. However, this method produced no result because the seniors could not hear the officers calling out.
The information provided by the mushroom pickers themselves proved crucial. A photograph they had taken of a distinctive place in the forest was also helpful. This enabled the police to better determine the group’s probable location.
As the Bolesławiec police headquarters emphasizes, the district officer’s very good knowledge of the area was also highly important. Thanks to the information and photographs provided by the seniors, as well as his knowledge of the forest, the officers quickly managed to locate the lost mushroom pickers.
The police safely escorted the seniors to their parked car. The residents of the capital of Lower Silesia were able to return home.
The head of the County Police Headquarters later received thanks for the officers who had helped the seniors. The residents of Wrocław highlighted the officers’ professionalism, composure, kindness, as well as their quick response and determination:
Their conduct is the best example of how important and necessary the service of Police officers is, and how much it means to citizens to be able to receive help in a difficult situation.
This case also shows how easily people can lose their bearings while mushroom picking, especially in a vast and unfamiliar forest. In such a situation, it is worth carrying a charged phone, paying attention to distinctive landmarks, and, if lost, not delaying in calling for help at 112.
