Firefighters from OSP Kraśnik Dolny joined the “10 Push-Ups for Ksawery” campaign. The unit published a recording in which the firefighters do 10 push-ups and then nominate three more units to take on the challenge: OSP KSRG Różyniec, OSP Tomaszów Bolesławiecki and OSP KSRG Stare Jaroszewice.
“Today, OSP Kraśnik Dolny is taking on the ‘10 Push-Ups for Ksawery’ challenge!” – the uniformed officers wrote. They added:
As firefighters, we help others every day, so this time we are also doing our part and showing that together we can achieve more!
The firefighters did 10 push-ups and nominated more units.
“Ksawery, we are with you! ❤️ We wish you lots of strength and smiles 💪 TOGETHER FOR KSAWERY! ❤️🚒” – the firefighters from Kraśnik Dolny emphasized.
The campaign follows the story of 3-year-old Ksawery from Tomaszów Bolesławiecki. Until recently, the boy led a life typical for his age. As his mother describes it:
Until recently, Ksawery ran, jumped on the trampoline and discovered the world with enormous curiosity. Today, he has to face an illness that none of us expected.
The first worrying symptoms appeared in April. “Our son Ksawery’s legs began to hurt. He started limping on one of them, and bruises also appeared. At first, we did not know what was happening. We searched for answers and believed that we would soon find the cause” – the boy’s mother recounts.
Over time, further symptoms appeared:
Ksawery developed a fever, began coughing, became increasingly weak and lost his appetite. Doctors examined our son, we received more referrals and underwent further tests. Despite this, it was still impossible to determine why his health was deteriorating.
The turning point came with the blood count results:
Another doctor referred us for a blood count. The results were alarming. That same day, Ksawery was admitted to hospital, where a blood transfusion was necessary.
On August 3, the boy was taken to Przylądek Nadziei in Wrocław. There, he underwent a series of specialist tests. The diagnosis was unequivocal – acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Treatment began immediately.
“What we remember above all is the immense fear. Fear for our child’s health and of what the coming days would bring. Seeing our son lying in a hospital bed, surrounded by doctors and nurses, was very difficult for us” – Ksawery’s mother writes.
The boy is currently in hospital with his mother. The family is waiting for the results of a lumbar puncture, which are to show how Ksawery’s body is responding to treatment and what the next stages of therapy will be.
“Ksawery’s father is working during this time and looking after our other son, Kornel, at home. From time to time, we switch places, trying to be close to both our children. In this difficult situation, the boys’ grandparents are also helping us greatly” – the fundraiser description says.
Above all, the family would like to return to normality:
We miss one another very much. We miss our time together, the ordinary rhythm of the day, and having our whole family together again. Our greatest dream is simply to return to normality.
Despite the difficult situation, the parents try to remember what Ksawery was like before the illness. The boy is interested in trains, planets and space. He also loved being active, running and playing on the trampoline.
“We would like to see him like that again: full of energy, curiosity and childlike joy” – his mother writes.
The family is asking for support for the fundraiser. The money will help cover costs related to treatment, medicines, transportation and rehabilitation. (“Every bit of help means a great deal to us. Thanks to it, we can focus on what is most important right now: Ksawery, his treatment and his recovery.”)
