On 29 August 2026, Firefighter’s Day was held in Nowa Kuźnia, combined with the ceremonial opening of the renovated fire station of the Volunteer Fire Service. It was an opportunity not only to celebrate together, but also to recall the unit’s history, thank those supporting its activities and show how important a role volunteer firefighters play in the local community.

The event was attended by residents of Nowa Kuźnia, the families and friends of the firefighters, and invited guests. As the firefighters emphasized, it was a day full of joy, emotion and pride, and above all an opportunity to meet together.
One of the most important moments of the ceremony was the donation by Krzysztof Skiba of a special memento to the fire station. The OSP Nowa Kuźnia firefighter gave the unit his medal for bravery, received after an operation to rescue a child from a burning building.
The firefighters said:
The donation of this medal to our fire station is immensely valuable to us—it is not merely a decoration, but above all a symbol of courage, sacrifice and firefighter service, which will remind future generations of firefighters what true service to another person means.
Another historical memento also found its way to the fire station. Ryszard Gołąb donated a historic OSP formal uniform to the unit. As the firefighters noted, objects of this kind help preserve the unit’s history and pass it on to future generations.
The safety of the local community was a key theme during Firefighter’s Day. OSP Nowa Kuźnia actively joined the “First Responder” campaign. Participants could receive mugs bearing the campaign logo and take part in practical first-aid exercises.
The firefighters also reminded residents about the National Response Training, drawing attention to the importance of proper preparation and appropriate conduct in dangerous situations.
The ceremony was also an opportunity to thank the people, companies and institutions that support the activities of OSP Nowa Kuźnia. The firefighters offered special thanks to:
- Gromadka Municipality Head Ryszard Kawka,
- Gromadka Municipality Secretary Tomasz Matyjewicz,
- USC Manager Ewa Potyszka,
- Chocianów Forest District,
- A.M. Serwis,
- Fermy Drobiu Woźniak,
- PSP in Bolesławiec,
- OSP Gromadka,
- the Village Head of Nowa Kuźnia,
- Chairman of the Gromadka Municipal Council Krzysztof Malina,
- CUS of Gromadka Municipality,
- Fundacja Czasami.
They also thanked “all the people, companies and institutions that support our activities—financially, materially and with kind words.”
The firefighters also remembered the sponsors, photographers, the Youth Firefighting Team and all the female and male firefighters involved in the unit’s activities.
The opening of the renovated fire station was therefore not only the symbolic completion of the work, but also the beginning of another stage in the activities of OSP Nowa Kuźnia. As the firefighters emphasize, they want the fire station to be a place that brings the local community together, while the firefighting service continues to be based on courage, brotherhood and readiness to help.
This year’s Firefighter’s Day in Nowa Kuźnia thus connected the unit’s present with its history. The renovated fire station, practical first-aid training and the donated mementos—including the medal for bravery associated with the child-rescue operation—became symbols of service, remembrance and responsibility for another person.
