The number of fatalities also decreased (by more than 17%). This year, 312 people died in accidents during the summer holidays, compared with 377 the year before. The number of injured people also fell. During the holidays, 5,522 people sustained injuries, which is 100 fewer than during the same period in 2025.
The statistics show that preventive measures, intensified checks and amended regulations are producing results.
The national accident map recorded 293 points (22 fewer than during the 2025 summer holidays). Despite the positive trends on the roads, many dangerous situations that could have been prevented still occurred. A total of 20,262 drivers operating under the influence of alcohol were arrested (a decrease of 433 cases).
Drivers who flagrantly break the rules had to face serious consequences. Exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 kilometers per hour carries a three-month driving ban. There were 4,275 such cases in built-up areas (1,104 fewer) and 1,750 outside built-up areas on single-carriageway, two-way roads. The police remind drivers that excessive speed remains one of the main causes of the most tragic road accidents.
It is worth noting that safety on Polish roads is steadily improving. From the beginning of the year through August 31, there were 342 fewer road accidents (13,406), and 114 fewer people died in them (959) compared with the corresponding period in 2025.
