On polska-org.pl, there is a photograph of the historic Piarist school building from 2020 showing a recruitment banner. It indicates that the advertisement has been hung on the façade for at least six years. The Piarist school has been located in the historic building since 2013.
Our portal established that the Provincial Office for the Protection of Monuments emphasized that the school should have asked the heritage conservator for an opinion on the matter. It also added that during all that time it had received no application or notification concerning the placement of the banner.
We described the matter in June 2026 in the article: The school hung a banner on the historic building for years. It did not ask the heritage conservator about it.
The Provincial Office for the Protection of Monuments – Jelenia Góra Branch saw no contraindications to temporarily hanging the banner on a building included in the municipal register of historic monuments.
“In this case, it is a banner placed on the building’s façade. It is a rectangular strip that partially covers a row of windows in the lower part of the gable,” explained Izabela Epa. “The banner contains lettering on a blue background. It provides information about admissions to the school, whose premises are located in the building on which it is hung, so it is closely connected with the building’s function,” the senior inspector added.
This is not a building that should be covered
The building housing today’s Piarist school not only has a long history but is also a beautiful architectural feature of the old town. It stands beside the historic town gardens and opposite the square where the monument commemorating the centenary of the Restoration of Independence is located. This is not a space without significance. It is a place where important events for residents take place. Here we commemorate national anniversaries, such as the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising, the restoration of independence, the anniversary of the Constitution of 3 May, and the outbreak of World War II.
The façade of the imposing school building, erected in 1912 according to a design by municipal architect Ernst Balzer and bearing witness to craftsmanship and attention to detail, should be free of advertisements, banners and other elements that disfigure the building.
