The Provincial Office for the Protection of Monuments – Jelenia Góra Branch only responded today, after a follow-up request, to our questions from 21 May. The matter concerns an advertising banner placed on the façade of the building of the Piarist Order School Complex in Bolesławiec.

The said banner had been displayed for years. The problem is that the building itself is included in the municipal register of historic monuments of the city of Bolesławiec.

The office stressed that the school should have asked the conservator for an opinion. However, according to the information provided to us today, the Jelenia Góra branch has not received any application, notification, letter or correspondence concerning the said banner to date.

The conservator also addressed the advertisement’s impact on the appearance of the building. In the office’s view, each case should be analysed individually:

In this case, it is a banner placed in the building’s gable. It is a rectangular strip that partially covers a row of windows in the lower part of the gable. The banner contains lettering on a blue background. It provides information about recruitment to the school, whose premises are located in the building on which it is hung, so it is closely related to the building’s function.

The response also stated: – It is not permanently attached to the façade and does not interfere with its appearance.

The email to the editorial office also included information about possible inspections. The branch explained that, due to the form of protection covering the property, it cannot initiate inspection proceedings. The building is not entered in the register of historic monuments. (It is listed only in the municipal register of historic monuments.)

As the Provincial Office for the Protection of Monuments – Jelenia Góra Branch told us in its response:

We see no objections to temporarily hanging the banner.
