The incident occurred on August 27, 2026, in Bolesławiec, in the parking lot of one of the supermarkets. A man noticed a woman whose behavior suggested that she might be intoxicated.

The 51-year-old woman walked around the parking lot and looked as though she was searching for her car. The way she moved aroused the witness’s suspicions. After a while, the woman found the vehicle, got behind the wheel and tried to drive away.

The man did not remain indifferent. He blocked the route with his car and then called the police to the scene.

Officers from Bolesławiec quickly arrived at the parking lot. They established that the 51-year-old had come to the supermarket to buy cigarettes. A breathalyzer test confirmed the witness’s suspicions—the woman had as much as 2.7‰ of alcohol in her system.

The resident of Bolesławiec County was detained. She will now face court proceedings for driving a car while intoxicated.

This type of offense carries a sentence of up to 3 years in prison. The woman must also expect a long-term loss of her driving licence and financial consequences.

In this situation, the reaction of the passerby who witnessed the incident proved crucial. If the man had ignored his suspicions and allowed the woman to drive away, the intoxicated driver could have entered the road and posed a serious threat to other road users.

Police officers once again remind the public that witnesses’ reactions can be extremely important for road safety. If there is reason to suspect that a driver may be under the influence of alcohol, it is worth immediately notifying the emergency services and—if this can be done without endangering one’s own safety—preventing the person from driving any farther.
