The editorial office received footage showing three young people using one electric scooter on the Mostowa–Bema route in Bolesławiec. According to the female reader, who, together with her husband, pointed out their behavior to the group, the young people were reportedly traveling this way through the streets of the City of Ceramics.
The short recording sent to the editorial office shows three people on one scooter. The trio is not moving in the video. However, according to the female reader’s account, the people had previously been riding together and also… traveling against traffic.
They pointed out their behavior. “Nothing would happen anyway”
The female reader said that she and her husband decided to point out the behavior to the young people. As she noted, the group did not see any major problem with what they were doing. – Why can’t we? Nothing would happen anyway – they reportedly replied after being spoken to.
The reporting woman’s husband stopped in order to react to the situation. However, it was not possible to speak with the group for longer, as the young people reportedly moved on.
– They did not wait (…), they probably carried on. In the mirror, I saw them getting onto the scooter – the woman told us.
One of the young people also reportedly responded to the couple in a dismissive manner.
One scooter, three people
This is another report from readers concerning dangerous behavior by electric scooter users in Bolesławiec. Recently, we published footage from Tamka Street showing three people crossing a pedestrian crossing within a dozen or so seconds—two electric scooter users and a cyclist.
In the case of scooters, the problem is not only transporting additional people, but also the way they move on the road. An electric scooter is intended for one user, and using it by several people at the same time significantly limits the ability to safely maneuver and respond to situations on the road.
An even greater danger arises when such behavior is combined with riding against the direction of traffic.
“Nothing would happen anyway”
It was precisely this attitude—as the female reader’s account indicates—that prompted her to send in the recording. A seemingly short and harmless ride can end in a collision or fall at any moment, especially when several people are on one scooter.
It is also worth remembering that electric scooter users are vulnerable road users. In a collision with a car, or even a fall following a sudden maneuver, they may suffer serious injuries.
The recording and the female reader’s account are another example of a situation in which it is worth exercising particular caution and reacting to behavior that may pose a danger to the scooter users themselves and to other road users.
