Yesterday, they were welcomed into the ranks of the 10th Armored Cavalry Brigade in Świętoszów. Today, they received weapons that from now on will be one of the most important symbols of their responsibility and service to the Homeland.
The new soldiers face an intensive month of training. It is a time for acquiring basic military skills, learning the rules of service and preparing for the next important moment – the ceremonial military oath.
The Homeland Defense Act introduced a new type of military service – voluntary basic military service. This form of military service is intended for all those who have never previously served in the military. It makes it possible to complete military training and, in the future, join the reserves or enter the professional army.
Until recently, people interested in serving in the military could, for example – apart from studying at a military academy or taking an officers’ or non-commissioned officers’ course – apply for preparatory service. However, this latter option was abolished by the Homeland Defense Act, in force since April 23, 2022. Preparatory service was replaced by a new form of active service for volunteers – voluntary basic military service. Applying for it is the first step toward being called up to the ranks of the Polish Armed Forces.
