On Monday, August 17, a violent storm and downpour caused serious problems on the railways in Wrocław. Koleje Dolnośląskie reported a loss of power in the overhead catenary system at Wrocław Główny station.
– Lightning strikes during the storm damaged the overhead catenary system – Marta Pabiańska from PKP PLK told TVP Wrocław.
Koleje Dolnośląskie warn that trains are experiencing significant delays. The carrier has also introduced mutual ticket acceptance with Polregio and PKP Intercity.
Delays also on the route through Bolesławiec
Disruptions also affect connections toward Legnica, Bolesławiec and Zgorzelec. According to information from Koleje Dolnośląskie, train no. 69577 from Wrocław Główny to Zgorzelec, scheduled to depart at 4:40 p.m., was about 60 minutes late. The carrier’s announcement covers, among others, Bolesławiec, Tomaszów Bolesławiecki, Chojnów, Legnica, Węgliniec and Zgorzelec.
Major delays were also recorded on other routes departing from Wrocław. The train from Wrocław to Wałbrzych Główny was about 70 minutes late, while the train to Szklarska Poręba Górna was at one point delayed by about 100 minutes.
Some connections were canceled entirely. This included, among others, trains from Wrocław toward Zielona Góra, Sobótka and Brzeg. In many cases, replacement bus services were not provided.
The situation is dynamic, and the length of delays may change. Passengers planning to travel through Wrocław Główny should check their train’s current status before departure.
