We wrote about the roundabout’s appearance at the end of July. The Reader then pointed out that the site located at one of the main entrances to Bolesławiec could be developed better and refer to the city’s ceramic character.
The idea met with a strong response. More than 100 comments from residents appeared beneath the post on our social media profile. The discussion concerned not only the roundabout’s appearance itself, but also whether the space at the entrance to the city should be more presentable.
Several days have passed. For now, however, no major changes can be seen. The Reader wrote to us again. (She tellingly titled her email: “Rondo Solidarności still looks dreadful. Over 100 comments and… silence”):
Some time ago, I reported the appearance of Rondo Solidarności at the entrance to Bolesławiec from the direction of Kruszyn. The article sparked a wide-ranging discussion—more than one hundred comments appeared beneath the text. Residents pointed out that the site, which should be the municipality’s showcase and one of the first views for people entering Bolesławiec, clearly requires tidying up and development.
She added
However, a lot of time has passed, and there are still no changes.
The person who submitted the report pointed out that if it is not currently possible to carry out larger works, at least the site’s basic appearance could be taken care of:
If the administrator of this area does not intend to do anything with it for now, perhaps the least that could be done is to ensure that it does not look even worse. It would be enough to… take down the flags hanging there.
Today, it is difficult to call them a showcase. Faded, dirty and visibly worn, instead of presenting the place with due respect, they give an impression of neglect. On a main road, in a place seen by residents and visitors, such a sight simply should not be present.
She also indicated that the roundabout should be dealt with by... the head of Gmina Bolesławiec. However, as we managed to establish, the administrator of the roundabout in question is the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways.
This does not change the fact that residents may expect the local authorities to take an interest in the problem and forward such signals to the appropriate institutions. The Reader wrote:
(...) more than one hundred people spoke up.
Were their comments noticed? Did anyone take them seriously? Was any decision made concerning the tidying up of this area?
For now, it is difficult to see any results.
She also emphasized:
This is not about a major investment costing millions. To begin with, it would be enough to take care of the basics: order, appearance and the dignified look of a site located at one of the main entrances to the city.
And she added:
If there is no money, idea or possibility of developing the roundabout in the near future, at least something could be done to remove the elements that today, instead of decorating the site, simply disfigure it.
That is why we will contact the administrator of the site with questions, among other things, about the condition of the flags, maintenance of the roundabout and any plans for its development.
We may return to the matter once we receive a response.
Although its administrator is responsible for the roundabout’s condition, it is difficult not to agree on one point: as one of the main entrances to Bolesławiec, this is a site that matters for the image of the city and the entire surrounding area.
