A tragedy was narrowly avoided at the railway station in Bolesławiec. A 20-year-old man jumped from the platform onto the tracks and ran directly in front of an approaching Koleje Dolnośląskie train. The dangerous moment was recorded by a camera located in the train.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. at the railway station in Bolesławiec. The young man suddenly decided to cross the tracks as a train was approaching.
The 20-year-old jumped from the platform onto the tracks and managed to run in front of the approaching train. In this case, it ended with nothing more than a terrible fright, but given the distance and the train's speed, the driver and the pedestrian had very little time to react.
Everything was recorded by the train's camera
The entire incident was recorded by a camera mounted in a Koleje Dolnośląskie train. Police decided to publish the recording as a warning, drawing attention to the danger associated with disregarding basic safety rules near the tracks.
As officers emphasize, the danger does not concern only the person entering the tracks. The sudden braking of a heavy train can also be dangerous for the passengers on board.
Everyone was drunk
That was not the end of the group's dangerous behavior. Police determined that before the incident, the three young men had caused a disturbance at the station and behaved aggressively toward other travelers.
Police detained the 20-year-old and his two companions, aged 20 and 19. All of them were residents of Legnica County.
A breathalyzer test showed between nearly 1.3 and more than 1.8 permille of alcohol in the detainees' breath. The men were detained until they sobered up and spent the night in a police detention room.
The 20-year-old received a PLN 2,000 fine
After sobering up, the men were held accountable for the offenses they had committed. Police cited, among other provisions, Article 51 § 2, Article 145 and Article 65a of the Code of Petty Offenses, and the case concluded with fine proceedings.
Additionally, the 20-year-old who ran across the tracks directly in front of the approaching train was fined PLN 2,000 for violating the provisions of the Railway Transport Act.
Police publish the recording as a warning
Officers remind the public that a pedestrian has virtually no chance in a collision with a train. Entering the tracks under the influence of alcohol is particularly dangerous, as the ability to assess the situation and reaction speed are further impaired.
This time, the 20-year-old managed to run in front of the train. However, a difference of just a few seconds could have decided the incident's outcome entirely.
