As stated in the information sent to our editorial office, the problem concerns the railway crossing in Szczytnica. There is a STOP sign and a sign informing drivers that the signalling system is damaged.
The Reader, who says they use this crossing every day, draws attention to drivers’ behaviour.
There is a STOP sign and a sign saying that the signalling system is damaged. I drive this way every day. Nobody pays any attention to it. People drive by habit. It looks very dangerous. The sign is barely visible.
Particular concern is raised by the situation in which drivers fail to stop before the crossing despite the applicable signs. When the traffic lights are not working, drivers should pay particular attention to road signs and make sure that entering the crossing is safe.
Another problem pointed out by the Reader is reportedly the poor visibility of the STOP sign. This may mean that some drivers do not see it early enough or become accustomed to the situation at the crossing.
It is not yet known how long the signalling system has been out of order or whether the problem has already been reported to the railway infrastructure manager. Nevertheless, the situation is worth attention, as railway crossings are places where drivers’ particular caution is crucial.
An appeal to drivers
Until the fault is repaired, drivers should exercise particular caution and comply with the applicable signs. In the case of a STOP sign, the vehicle must be stopped before the crossing, and the driver must make sure that no train is approaching.
If the signalling system is indeed out of order and the STOP sign is poorly visible, it is also worth notifying the relevant services or the infrastructure manager.
