During a routine operation focused on checking two-wheeler users, officers from the Traffic Division of the District Police Headquarters in Złotoryja stopped the rider of a BMW motorcycle and established that he was subject to a court-imposed ban on driving all motor vehicles.
That was not the end of the 33-year-old’s problems. A drug test detected amphetamine in the man’s system. Blood was also drawn from him for laboratory testing, which will ultimately confirm whether he was driving under the influence of drugs.
The police officers’ further findings were equally serious. The motorcycle had registration plates assigned to another vehicle, was not registered, had not been approved for road use and did not have the mandatory third-party liability insurance.
The most serious discovery, however, concerned the motorcycle itself. Officers established that the BMW was listed in police databases as a vehicle stolen in Germany.
The 33-year-old rider was detained, while the motorcycle was secured and towed to a guarded car park. The case is being handled by criminal investigation officers, who are clarifying all the circumstances of the incident. The man will face court proceedings for the crimes and offences he committed.
Police remind the public that driving despite a court-imposed ban, driving under the influence of drugs and using registration plates not assigned to a vehicle are among the most serious road-traffic violations. Officers stress that such checks are intended to remove from the roads people who pose a danger to other road users.
