Dramatic scenes unfolded in Lubań, where a 40-year-old man used violence against a security guard after stealing alcohol from a market and attempted to flee. Thanks to the swift response of officers from the Patrol Unit of the District Police Headquarters in Lubań, he was arrested after a brief foot chase. By court order, he will spend the next three months in pre-trial detention.

Investigators established that the man entered the store and took alcohol from the shelves without paying for it. When the security guard tried to prevent him from leaving the store, the perpetrator became aggressive. He struck the guard on the head with his hand, grabbed and pushed him, and threatened to damage his property. He then ran out of the market.

Police officers patrolling the town in a marked police car were near the scene. The officers saw the fleeing man and the security guard trying to stop him. They immediately began a foot pursuit, which ended in the... Kwisa River, where the fleeing 40-year-old was arrested.

That was not the end of the matter. During the investigation, police officers determined that the suspect had committed another theft that same day. In another store, he allegedly stole power tools and other products, including a rotary hammer, an angle grinder, rust remover and copper fittings. The total value of the stolen property exceeded PLN 1,200.

The evidence gathered allowed prosecutors to charge the 40-year-old with theft, criminal threats and robbery theft. Investigators also determined that he had acted as a repeat offender, as he had previously been convicted of similar crimes.

After the procedural activities were completed, the suspect was taken to the prosecutor's office. At the request of the police and the prosecutor, the court ordered pre-trial detention for a period of three months.
