The work of volunteer firefighters is most often associated with fighting fires, removing the effects of storms, or rescuing people involved in road accidents. As the latest initiative by the members of OSP Kraśnik Dolny shows, helping residents often goes far beyond rescue and firefighting operations.

On July 28, 2026, the unit’s members responded to a request from their colleague and fellow municipal councillor, Dariusza Stachowa. However, the purpose was not an emergency intervention, but support for a person who had suffered in a fire and faced the difficult task of putting their damaged apartment in order.

The firefighters stress that they know the end of firefighting operations does not mean the end of the problems faced by those affected:

We know that when the fire goes out, another very difficult stage begins for those affected. That is why we could not remain indifferent to this situation.

The entire operation was carried out on a voluntary basis. The members devoted their free time to helping a person who had found themselves in a difficult life situation. As they point out, they did not expect any payment for their work:

We carried out all the work completely free of charge. We did not expect anything in return—the greatest satisfaction for us is knowing that we were able to help and at least somewhat ease the burden on a person who found themselves in a difficult situation.

The firefighters also thanked all the members who became involved in the operation, stressing that it is precisely such actions that best demonstrate the idea behind volunteer firefighting.

We thank all the members who devoted their private time and joined this operation. It is moments like these that show what OSP truly means—unity, commitment, and readiness to provide help whenever it is needed.

Although this type of activity rarely appears in official intervention statistics, for people who have experienced the effects of a fire, it often matters just as much as the rescue operation itself. The selfless help provided by the members of OSP Kraśnik Dolny shows that firefighting service is not only about responding to threats, but also about supporting residents when they need it most.
