Residents of Bolesławiec had the opportunity to hear a virtuoso of exceptional calibre at Friday’s concert in the Bolesławiec Marian Sanctuary. As part of the Wrocław classical music festival, Norwegian violinist Henning Kraggerud was invited to Bolesławiec together with the Festival Orchestra.

Kraggerud performs as a soloist with leading orchestras around the world—he has performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Osmo Vänskä, the Stuttgart Staatsorchester conducted by Manfred Honeck, and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra conducted by Joseph Swensen. He has also performed at Carnegie Hall with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Kraggerud has also achieved great success as a recording artist, and his interpretation of Ysaÿe’s sonatas won the prestigious Norwegian Spellemann award.

The orchestra performed two works: Edward Grieg’s suite “From Holberg’s Time” and Franz Schubert’s string quartet “Death and the Maiden” (in an arrangement by Gustav Mahler). The artists performed two encores.

Admission to the concert was free because the city budget allocated PLN 31,000 for this purpose.

We also recommend our camera, which we installed in the Bolesławiec Marian Sanctuary and which shows the Baroque main altar carved by Weber 24 hours a day. An image is transmitted every minute and can be viewed on the “Camera in the Bolesławiec Marian Sanctuary” page.
