After the publication concerning the reconstruction of Sokola Street, our editorial office received another report from a resident. This time, the reader sent photographs of the newly constructed intersection and once again drew attention to design solutions that, in her opinion, could negatively affect traffic safety and flow.

The reporting resident:

I would also like to mention that before the renovation, this road was 12 m wide, while now it is 6 m wide, because 3-metre-wide strips were left on both sides – a pedestrian and cycle path on one side and a green strip, also 3 m wide, on the other.

And she added:

I have the impression that the person who prepared this project did so from behind a desk, rather than in the field, because no one with any common sense would create something like this. In other cities, consultations with residents are held, while here no one saw the project, which, as people say, was prepared back in 2018, when some of the buildings did not even exist yet.

And she added:

As for the intersections, the turns are at 90-degree angles, although they could have been made much gentler because there is enough space there. I believe they are very sharp and dangerous. In the future, traffic jams will form at this intersection because this part of the estate is constantly expanding, and this is currently the only access road to this part of the estate.

She also pointed out: – The surface planned for this section is also some kind of mistake, because it is to be made of paving blocks rather than asphalt. Given the volume of traffic already present there, I believe this is a very bad idea, and I am afraid the road will quickly deteriorate.

And she concluded: – I have the impression that the only goal is to spend money, rather than to protect the well-being and safety of residents.

Let us recall that we had already reported on residents’ concerns regarding this investment. At the time, the editorial office contacted Bolesławiec City Hall and asked it to respond to the issues raised. As of publication, we had not received a reply from the municipal authorities.
