Since Tuesday morning, 21 July, residents of Bolesławiec and the surrounding area have reported hearing loud bangs resembling explosions. According to a statement from the Żagań Land Forces Training Area, the sounds are connected with scheduled exercises being conducted at the Karliki and Świętoszów training areas.
In the Karliki sector, from Tuesday to Friday (21–24 July), live-fire exercises are held from 8:00–16:00 and 17:00–22:00. No firing is scheduled in this sector on the weekend of 25 and 26 July.
In the Świętoszów sector, exercises are conducted from Monday to Saturday from 8:00–16:00, and then again from 18:00 to 5:00 a.m.. No firing will take place on Sunday, 26 July, either.
The military also announced that throughout the week—from 20 to 26 July—round-the-clock tactical training is being held in the “A” sector of Karliki and the “D” sector of Świętoszów, using battlefield simulation equipment and smoke devices. This means that the sounds of explosions and other noises may also be heard outside the standard live-fire hours.
Additionally, from 20 to 24 July, between 8:00–18:00, explosive demolitions are being conducted at PCT Świętoszów–Wzgórza Sobieskiego with local security measures in place.
Residents of Bolesławiec, Świętoszów, Osiecznica and other towns located near the training area may therefore continue to hear bangs connected with the ongoing military exercises over the coming days. According to the published schedule, these are planned activities and are not a cause for concern.
