The incident occurred on Friday, July 17, at a large ceramics plant located on Kościuszki Street. Firefighters, the gas emergency service and police have been working at the scene since the morning.
According to preliminary findings, gas was released. Everything indicates that the leak is underground, near the plant. The gas emergency service is currently working to locate the exact source of the leak and secure it.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. However, firefighters decided to evacuate the plant and the nearby residential building in order to eliminate the danger to people.
A total of 365 people were evacuated. The plant was left by 359 employees, while six residents were evacuated from the neighboring residential building.
Police are securing the area and preventing vehicles from entering the zone where the operations are underway. The response, which began after 10 a.m., is still ongoing. Until the leak is found and removed, the emergency services are appealing to people to follow officers’ instructions and avoid the area.
At this time, there is no information on when the operations will be completed.
