The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management warns of possible rapid changes in the hydrological situation in Lower Silesia. The warning covers, among others, the rivers Bóbr and Kwisa, which flow through Bolesławiec County or its immediate vicinity.

According to the forecasters, the threat is caused by forecast heavy rainfall, locally accompanied by thunderstorms. During the heaviest rainfall, small watercourses and rivers may rise very quickly. Urban areas are also particularly vulnerable, as local flooding of streets, properties, and basements may occur.

A first-degree hydrological warning is in effect for the upper parts of the Bóbr and Kwisa catchments and the upper Lusatian Neisse, with a 70 percent probability of the phenomenon occurring. IMGW indicates that warning levels may also be exceeded in some places.

The second warning covers the lower sections of the Bóbr and the Oder, together with numerous tributaries. Local rises in water levels and a risk of flooding are also forecast there, especially where intense thunderstorms develop.

The first warning is in effect from Tuesday, July 14, at 9:40 a.m. until Wednesday, July 15, at midnight. The second will remain valid on Tuesday until 11:00 p.m..

The services are appealing for caution, especially near rivers, streams, and culverts. Drivers should expect that some road sections may be flooded during heavy rainfall, while residents of areas near watercourses should regularly follow weather and hydrological bulletins.

Although the warning is at the lowest, first level, the situation may change very rapidly. If severe thunderstorms occur, localized heavy rainfall may within a short time lead to a rapid rise in water levels and local flooding, including in Bolesławiec County.
