The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate announced the withdrawal from sale of two batches of Ser Twardy Tarty 40 g, available in Carrefour stores. The decision was prompted by the detection of Listeria monocytogenes bacteria in one of the product batches. The other was withdrawn as a precaution because it was produced under similar technological conditions and during the same production period.
The Inspectorate appeals to consumers not to consume the product identified in the notice. Consuming food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria may lead to listeriosis, a disease that is particularly dangerous for pregnant women, older people and people with weakened immune systems.
Withdrawn product – check whether you have it at home
The withdrawal covers the following product:
- Name: Ser Twardy Tarty 40 g
- Batch numbers: 04835/26 and 04834/26
- Best-before dates: 17 July 2026 and 11 July 2026
- Barcode: 5905784309415
- Manufacturer: TMT Sp. z o.o., Łomża
- Produced for: Carrefour Polska Sp. z o.o.
If the product is at home, it should not be consumed.
Why was the product withdrawn?
According to GIS, the presence of Listeria monocytogenes bacteria was detected during the manufacturer's testing of one batch of cheese. The manufacturer also decided to withdraw the second batch because it had been produced under similar technological and time conditions.
The company identified the entire production batch and products made from the same raw material. Tests of retained samples, raw-material samples from other deliveries, current production and subsequent batches of cheese did not detect the bacteria.
In addition, the manufacturer commissioned an external laboratory to collect environmental swabs and began reviewing its cleaning procedures and the disinfectants used. Further action is to be taken after the analysis of the results is completed.
What did Carrefour do?
The Carrefour chain launched a procedure to withdraw the product from sale. Sales were halted, and the withdrawn products were sent for disposal.
Information about the withdrawal was published on the chain's website, in stores and at customer service points. The notices are to remain available until the best-before dates of the indicated batches.
Inspections are carrying out checks
The District Veterinary Officer in Łomża is supervising corrective measures at the production facility and has inspected sanitary and veterinary conditions.
The withdrawal process is also being monitored by the authorities of the State Sanitary Inspection.
What are the symptoms of listeriosis?
Listeriosis is a disease caused by Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. The most common symptoms include:
- fever,
- muscle pain,
- nausea,
- diarrhea,
- and, in severe cases, infection of the nervous system.
Pregnant women, newborns, older people and patients with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk of a severe course of the disease.
What should consumers do?
GIS recommends not consuming the withdrawn product. Anyone who has eaten the indicated cheese and notices concerning symptoms should contact a doctor as soon as possible.
Before consuming the product, it is worth checking the batch number and best-before date of the item in your refrigerator. If they match the details given in the notice, the product should not be consumed.
