A dangerous discovery was made on July 2 in a forest complex near Turystyczna Street in Piechowice. A police patrol was immediately sent to the site and secured the area until the arrival of bomb-disposal specialists from the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment in Bolesławiec.
Police reported that two fuzes, a mortar grenade and an artillery shell dating from World War II were found in the forest. Despite the passage of many years, objects of this kind may still pose a serious threat to life and health.

After the site was secured, the discovered items were taken over by officers from Bolesławiec.

Officers remind the public that unexploded ordnance and misfired ammunition left over from wartime operations can still be found in forests, fields or during earthworks. Every such discovery must be treated as potentially deadly.

If a suspicious object is found, it must not be touched, moved or dismantled. Move away to a safe distance and notify the services as soon as possible by calling the emergency number 112.
Police emphasize that responsible behavior by witnesses can prevent a tragedy. Even more than 80 years after the end of World War II, unexploded ordnance remains a real threat, so every report of such a discovery requires an immediate response from the relevant services.
