The incident occurred on June 30 at a Biedronka store in Karpacz. Police said that the woman accidentally left her wallet by the checkout while shopping. Moments later, another customer noticed it.

Instead of reporting that he had found the wallet to the staff, the 32-year-old took it and left the discount store. The value of the lost property was nearly PLN 900.

Officers from the police station in Karpacz handled the case. Analysis of the store’s surveillance recordings proved crucial, allowing them to quickly establish the suspect’s identity. The man was detained and charged with misappropriation of property.

Such an offense is punishable by up to five years in prison.

Police remind the public that finding someone else’s wallet, phone or other valuables does not mean they may be kept. In such a situation, the found item should be handed over to its owner, a store employee or the police should be notified.
