A BMW crashed through the bridge barriers and plunged into the Bóbr River. The dramatic incident occurred on Monday evening, June 29, on the road between Rakowice Małe and Włodzice Wielkie.

According to initial findings, the 20-year-old driver, a resident of Bolesławiec County, lost control of the vehicle while negotiating the bend before the bridge in Włodzice Małe.

The BMW skidded, broke through the safety barriers and ended up in the waters of the Bóbr River.

In addition to the driver, the car was carrying two female passengers aged 17 and 18, residents of Lwówek County.

The witnesses who noticed the moment of the accident played a crucial role and immediately rushed to help. They pulled three unconscious people from the sinking car before the emergency services arrived.

Police reported that the driver and the older passenger regained consciousness after some time. The 17-year-old suffered the most serious injuries, as she remained underwater the longest. The teenager went into cardiac arrest, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation had to be performed.

After receiving medical assistance, the injured girl was transported to hospital in serious condition.

A preliminary breathalyser test showed that the 20-year-old driver was sober. However, police secured a blood sample for further laboratory tests to check for the presence of intoxicating substances.

Crews from the State Fire Service, Volunteer Fire Service units, police officers and emergency medical teams worked at the scene for many hours. The road connecting Rakowice Małe with Włodzice Wielkie was completely blocked, and traffic was diverted along designated detours.

The exact circumstances and course of the accident are being investigated. Photos: Lwówek na Sygnale. More at eluban.pl.
