The incident occurred last Thursday in the Nowogrodziec municipality. Police officers from the local precinct received a report concerning the theft of an electric scooter worth approximately PLN 1,400.
According to the officers’ findings, the owner had arrived to do some shopping and left the vehicle outside the store. A man passing nearby allegedly took advantage of the opportunity and rode away on someone else’s two-wheeler.
The store’s surveillance footage played a key role in the case. The recording captured the moment the crime was committed and enabled the officers to quickly identify a person suspected of the theft.
The very next day, officers detained a 41-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County. During the operation, they also found the stolen scooter—it had been hidden in bushes near the suspect’s place of residence.
The recovered vehicle will soon be returned to its owner.
Police report that the detainee had previously been convicted of property-related offenses. This means he will face the theft charge as a repeat offender, which may result in a more severe sentence. Under the applicable regulations, he faces up to 7.5 years in prison.
