Bolesławiec looked on Sunday as if the city had almost emptied out for several hours. The city cameras showed empty or nearly empty streets. The skatepark beneath the railway viaduct, usually associated with activity and young people, was also deserted.

The reason is the extremely high temperature. According to current weather data, it is around 38 degrees Celsius in Bolesławiec, and temperatures may reach 40 degrees in the coming hours. IMGW has issued a red heat warning for Bolesławiec, in effect until Monday, June 29, at 8:00 p.m. Forecasters predict that the maximum temperature on Sunday may range from 36 to 42 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures will range from 19 to 24 degrees.

In practice, this means that even a short walk in full sunlight can be very taxing. Heated pavements, squares, bus stops and cars intensify the sensation of heat. Residents who do not need to go outside are staying at home. Traffic in the city center and recreational areas is much lighter than usual.

IMGW is also warning of thunderstorms. An orange warning for thunderstorms with lightning is in effect for Bolesławiec from 5:00 p.m. until Monday, June 29, at 2:00 a.m. Locally heavy rain, wind gusts of up to 90 km/h, locally up to 100 km/h, and hail are forecast.

During such weather, older people, children, those with chronic illnesses, and people who work or spend time outdoors should be especially careful. It is advisable to drink water in small amounts, avoid alcohol, limit physical exertion, and never leave children or animals in cars, even for a short time.

The heat is expected to ease on Monday, although it will still be very hot. According to the warning, the maximum temperature on June 29 may range from 28 to 34 degrees Celsius.
