Piotr Roman, presenting a report at the June session of the Bolesławiec City Council on the most important activities undertaken between sessions, mentioned the construction of a road on Generała Józefa Hallera Street. This investment became the starting point for a brief yet unusual digression concerning local history.
The mayor noted that he had recently learned where the name Kozia Górka came from. According to the story relayed to him, the area was associated with re-emigrants from France. According to this account, it was they who popularized more frequent use of goat products and also raised these mammals.
The mayor immediately stressed, however, that he did not regard this version as a confirmed historical fact.
Local stories of this kind often function as elements of a city’s collective memory and, as a result, do not always find clear confirmation in sources. One thing is certain: they arouse residents’ interest and remind us that even conversations about investments can lead to unexpected threads from the city’s past.
