On 11 June, we reported that a reader had written to us:

The newly built bicycle path to Trzebień is incomplete and dangerous. Its ending is particularly surprising: it leads cyclists onto the main road to Trzebień (2 km beyond Golnice)—without slowing gates. In addition, drivers speeding along this road do not pass a single warning sign reading “Caution: Cyclists.”

She added:

This path has neither information signs, “STOP” signs and slowing gates at intersections with other roads, nor protective barriers on the steep embankment before the railway bridge in Dąbrowa.

And she stated:

A major shortcoming is the fact that the initial section from ul. Staroszkolna to Chościszowice was not built, forcing users to ride along the busy main road, for example ul. Modłowa.

She also proposed a solution:

The solution to this problem would be to give the patched and pothole-ridden, 3-kilometre historic Dworska Aleja Dębowa from the palace in Kruszyn a new asphalt surface suitable for rollerbladers and cyclists, runners and walkers. It would also be closed to motor traffic. This would complement the path from Bolesławiec to Kraśnik.

We asked the administrator whether measures to improve user safety were planned. Urząd Gminy Bolesławiec explains:

Construction of the pedestrian-and-bicycle route is currently under way and the area is a construction site. The comments described are unfounded because the work has not yet been completed and the pedestrian-and-bicycle route has not been opened to users.

(…) the end of the route was built in accordance with the design and the approved traffic-organisation plan. This year, Gmina Bolesławiec will begin construction of stage II of the pedestrian-and-bicycle route to the locality of Trzebień and further towards Gmina Gromadka.

We asked whether there was a chance of a section connecting the bicycle route with ul. Staroszkolna and Chościszowice. Here is the response from the municipal authorities:

Yes, Gmina Bolesławiec is currently conducting a land-acquisition procedure intended to connect the pedestrian-and-bicycle route under construction with the locality of Chościszowice.

What about Dworska Aleja Dębowa in Kruszyn?

The office:

As of today, Gmina Bolesławiec has not secured funds in its budget for the renovation of road plots no. 566, 597, 907, 906 and 905 on the Kruszyn–Kraśnik Dolny route. It is a municipal road. Its technical parameters (width) do not allow a separate lane for cyclists, rollerbladers or pedestrians to be designated on its surface. The existing Łużyce-Bory bicycle trail runs along the road.

But it immediately adds:

Gmina Bolesławiec informs that the reconstruction of the road in question is included in its investment plans. However, due to the need to reach certain agreements with PKP, it is unable to provide a date for the road reconstruction.
