In connection with the long June weekend, officers from June 3 to 8 are conducting wide-ranging checks on main routes, roads leading out of cities and in places particularly vulnerable to dangerous incidents.
Drivers exceeding the speed limit, driving under the influence of alcohol and people travelling in technically defective vehicles will be subject to particular scrutiny. Police officers will also check whether children are being transported in accordance with the applicable regulations.
Both marked police cars and unmarked vehicles equipped with video recorders will appear on the roads. Officers announce decisive action against so-called road pirates, whose irresponsible behaviour often leads to fatal accidents.
Additional disruptions can be expected during Corpus Christi processions. Police will direct traffic and secure the routes of the processions, which may involve temporary changes to traffic organisation.
Officers also appeal to drivers to use common sense. Before setting off, it is worth checking the vehicle’s technical condition, fluid levels and that the lights are working. Adequate rest before the journey and compliance with safety rules by all passengers are also crucial.
Police also remind people to secure their flats and houses before leaving. Closed windows and doors, as well as neighbours’ vigilance, can effectively hinder burglars.
During the long weekend, increased patrols will also be present on the water. Police water patrol officers will watch over the safety of people relaxing by lakes and water reservoirs, reminding them to exercise particular caution while swimming and taking part in water sports.
