A spring walk in the vicinity of Jana Pawła II Street in Bolesławiec turned into a nightmare for our reader. It was all because of a dangerous substance that appeared again in a public place.
A Dramatic Fight for Life
It all began at the start of March. That was when one of the four-legged companions fell victim to the thoughtless—or deliberate—actions of an unknown person. The dog’s owner still recalls those moments with terror. The animal’s condition was critical, and the veterinarians’ prognosis offered no hope. Only thanks to the specialists’ swift intervention and determination was the worst avoided.
Unfortunately, it appears that the perpetrator did not stop after the first incident. On April 25, 2026, the dangerous substance was noticed on the estate again.
Reader: “Someone is doing this deliberately”
Woman:
(...) I would like to ask you to publicize the issue of slug pellets being scattered near Jana Pawła II Street in Bolesławiec. At the beginning of March this year, someone scattered the pellets around the blocks numbered 6 to 10 on JPII Street. My dog was poisoned by them then, nearly fatally. The veterinarians gave him no chance of survival. However, a quick response and fantastic veterinary care saved his life.
And she added:
Today (April 25, 2026)—a little over a month after the poisoning—I found another place where the pellets had been scattered, a little farther away, by the parking lot.
She also stated:
Someone is doing this deliberately, because March or April is not slug season. The places where it was scattered are not typical either. In most cases, without a quick response and appropriate treatment, this poison is fatal to every living organism. I want to emphasize that this applies not only to animals, but also to people, and there is a children’s playground in this area. What would happen if a child ate such poison? Who would be held responsible?
She also appealed: – Watch your children and pets.
Deadly Chemicals Beneath the Windows
Slug pellets most often contain metaldehyde, an extremely toxic substance. It has a sweetish taste that attracts dogs, cats, and even young children. After ingestion, it causes rapid damage to the nervous system, seizures, and respiratory failure.
We appeal to all residents to exercise increased vigilance. If you notice suspicious granules—often blue, white, or gray—scattered on lawns, report them to the appropriate services. Also monitor what your children pick up from the ground while playing outdoors.
