The Bolesławiec-based band Sumptuastic recorded its old hit in... Spanish. The group’s leader Andrzej Janusz wrote this about the new version of the song:
At the beginning of the year, I spoke with a Spaniard named Alejandro from the music industry. The conversation turned to the song “Niepokonani”, which I wrote more than 20 years ago. He asked me directly whether I had been inspired by Spanish music from the 1980s.
I told him the brutal truth: back then, there were just a few cassette tapes and a couple of vinyl records in the entire village. At the time, I could dream of music from Spain even more than I could dream of a Ferrari parked beside the barn. 😄
The aforementioned Alejandro did not believe him. The man from Bolesławiec:
He kept asking whether someone in my circle might have listened to that kind of music. So I explained that back then, getting hold of any music at all was almost a miracle. I arranged with the man at the shop to try to get a compilation cassette whenever a new delivery arrived.
He also added:
Alejandro continued to insist. He said that “Niepokonani” was typically Spanish. That it had their romantic spirit, an emotional message, and that the symbol of crossing a river to the other bank was almost sacred to them.
There was no way to explain to him that we Poles also have romanticism in our blood and symbols heavier than a sack of nails. 😏
The finale of this story? Sumptuastic recorded “Niepokonani” in Spanish.
