The story that happened to the dog of our reader Monika shows how insidious and dangerous this tick-borne disease can be. May this story serve as a warning and admonition to other people who own dogs.

Despite the preventive measures used against diseases, the hero of our story, Chillek, began showing alarming symptoms after returning from one of his walks: lack of appetite, apathy and weakness.

Initially, the symptoms might have seemed harmless and easy to disregard. However, Chillek’s condition deteriorated rapidly—he suffered limb paralysis, loss of consciousness and severe drooling. Immediate veterinary intervention and a quick diagnosis made it possible to begin the fight for his life.

He was diagnosed with babesiosis—a disease transmitted by ticks that can quickly lead to internal organ failure and the death of the animal.

Thanks to intensive treatment, including intravenous fluids, antibiotics and constant care, the reader’s dog gradually began to recover. After a few days, the first signs of improvement appeared—the return of appetite, independent movement and regained energy. Today, Chillek is healthy.

The reader extends her heartfelt thanks to veterinarian Marta Surdyka from the MARVET Veterinary Clinic in Bolesławiec for her invaluable help in treating Chillek.
