The incident occurred during the night of February 19–20 in Jawor. – The perpetrator, who was unknown at the time, damaged the façade of one of the restaurants, an air-conditioning unit mounted on the wall and a roller shutter – lists Sub-Inspector Ewa Kluczyńska from the local KPP. – As a result of the incident, two vehicles parked nearby were also damaged.

Officers established that the perpetrator had used an air gun, firing several shots at the building. The spokesperson said: – Initially, identifying the place from which the shots were fired was considerably difficult—the incident occurred in an estate with many apartment blocks and numerous windows.

Breakthrough

A breakthrough in the case came from a detailed analysis of the scene conducted by a forensic technician. The sub-commissioner said:

Using specialist equipment, including a laser, he reconstructed the projectile’s trajectory. The precise work and the officer’s experience made it possible to identify a specific balcony on the fourth floor of one of the apartment blocks located opposite the restaurant.

The police immediately went to the selected address. There they found a 24-year-old man who, as he stated, lived alone while his parents were abroad. During the search, officers found an air rifle together with a gas cylinder.

The man admitted that he had bought the weapon online and that on the fateful night he had fired shots without any specific reason, “for entertainment,” aiming at the restaurant building. It turned out that one of the projectiles ricocheted, damaging vehicles parked nearby.

The 24-year-old was charged with property damage. The court will decide his further fate. The spokesperson concluded:

This case shows how important the experience and precision of forensic technicians are in police work. It is their knowledge, skills and use of modern tools that make it possible to effectively reconstruct the course of events and reach perpetrators—even in conditions as difficult as densely built-up residential estates.
