On a municipal poster created by artificial intelligence, a young artist made a modest but very important protest:
"A small appeal to the mayor. Seriously? A graphic generated by artificial intelligence?
What next? A new data center that will draw water from the Bóbr (even though we have some of the cleanest water in Poland).
I didn’t study computer graphics so that some machine could replace me.
Please, use some graphic from Stock or contact an artist for a new work... HUMAN ARTISTS MATTER"
We ask a student who creates graphics today and learned drawing at BOK – MCC why he opposes the mayor’s use of AI.
– I have been drawing since I was a child, I am passionate about creating all kinds of things, and art is the most important part of my life – the young artist replies. – I cannot imagine where I would be now if, since childhood, I had seen examples of how irrelevant this skill is in the eyes of others. Especially when the people spreading these messages, intentionally or not, are highly placed adults who could easily afford to pay an artist for a single picture – the student adds.
The irony: a city of ceramics, famous for hand-decorated products, uses AI
The student presents the perspective of someone who lives in a city of ceramics. The work of female painter-artists is praised and admired.
– Our city is famous for ceramics, which are a symbol of human creativity, so why are graphic artists not respected? – the student asks. – It may seem trivial, but it must be noted that the posters created by AI have been put up throughout the city, meaning they are intended to promote something important. Using AI when it would at least have been possible to include a simple drawing made by a child (which would have been more thematic) is simply laziness, and it has consequences: it closes off careers for many young artists who could earn a few pennies, especially in these difficult times for them. In my opinion, this discourages children and young people from developing their creativity – he adds.
We have noticed the mayor’s fascination with AI; for some time now, the city official has also been responding to citizens in a way that looks like ChatGPT. The responses are empty waffle combined with meaningless babble, characteristic of content generated by artificial intelligence without skill.
Historically, “Elektronik” was the former Royal Vocational School of Ceramics
The present-day Zespół Szkół Elektronicznych was historically the seat of Keramische Fachschule Bunzlau, one of the three key ceramic schools in Germany
From its establishment until the end of World War I, it was called the Royal Vocational School of Ceramics. Its first director was Wilhelm Pukall, technical manager of the Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Berlin.
The school employed outstanding specialists in ceramic production technology as well as excellent artists and designers. As a result, young ceramicists gained not only solid craft foundations but also exposure to innovative techniques and artistic trends.
The school did not limit itself to passing on knowledge; it developed new technologies for producing vessels in molds using stoneware clay. Introducing these techniques made it possible to create durable, lightweight vessels with high-quality decoration.
Moreover, graduates and the artists who worked with them helped popularize avant-garde shapes and decorations. This expanded the design possibilities of Bolesławiec factories and enhanced their prestige in the domestic and international markets.
