We received a photo from a reader showing that the bus driver passed a traffic island on the left, despite the requirement to pass it on the right.
In the photograph, we can see a street sweeper beside the bus, suggesting that the PKS driver, perhaps in a hurry, decided to overtake the aforementioned vehicle in this way. (The incident occurred on Monday or Tuesday last week.)
We asked PKS Bolesławiec about the incident. The company replied:
Yes, we are aware of the circumstances of the incident, and consequences have been drawn against the employee.
The situation could have been dangerous because the driver passed the traffic island from the wrong side, contrary to the road markings. Traffic islands on the roadway are intended to organize traffic and force drivers to follow a specific path, often also requiring them to reduce their speed.
By passing them in this way, a driver may enter a section of road intended for vehicles coming from the opposite direction, or a place where other drivers do not expect a vehicle to be.
In such a situation, a dangerous incident can easily occur: the risk of sudden braking, a collision, or a dangerous reaction from other road users increases.
