The incident took place in the Ścinawa municipality. – The duty officer at the Lubin police headquarters received information from witnesses about a scuffle between two intoxicated men outside one of the stores. The information indicated that an altercation had broken out between them – reports junior inspector Sylwia Serafin, press officer of the KPP in Lubin.

The police officers dispatched to the scene found the 52-year-old lying in front of the store parking lot. The man was conscious. Spokeswoman:

Because of the low temperature, the officers placed him on a thermal blanket, covered him and monitored his condition until the emergency medical team arrived.

Both participants in the incident were heavily intoxicated, which made it considerably more difficult to establish the exact course of events. They were also well known to local law enforcement from numerous previous interventions.

The 29-year-old was taken to a police cell, while the 52-year-old was transported to hospital and placed under doctors’ care. Initially, the police did not receive any information from medical staff that his condition was serious or posed a threat to his health or life.

Regardless, the officers took further steps, including securing surveillance footage, which proved to be key evidence in the subsequent proceedings.

That same day, investigators also contacted the hospital to verify the victim’s current health condition. Nothing indicated that tragedy would strike several days later.

The community police officer took an interest in the man on her own initiative, as she was well acquainted with his family situation. The policewoman then learned that the victim had been transferred to another hospital, undergone surgery and that his condition had deteriorated. Unfortunately, he died several days later.

The result? The 29-year-old suspect was detained by police and charged with causing grievous bodily harm resulting in death. The man had repeatedly appeared in police records, including for offenses against life and health, as well as property offenses.

After reviewing the extensive evidence collected by the police, the court decided to place him in temporary custody. He could face a sentence of up to life imprisonment.
