The incident occurred on Monday, February 23, at around 7:00 a.m. Near the village of Kłopotnica (Mirsk municipality, Lwówek County), at one of the crossings, a passenger car collided with a train.
As stated on the Koleje Dolnośląskie website:
Accident at a railway crossing, collision with a passenger car. Suspension of traffic Gryfów Śląski–Stara Kamienica. Train 66860 Görlitz 05:39–Jelenia Góra 07:15 is cancelled between Rębiszów and Jelenia Góra. We apologize for the inconvenience.
The notice concerns the following stations: Gryfów Śląski, Jelenia Góra, Jelenia Góra Zabobrze, Kwieciszowice, Młyńsko, Rębiszów, Rybnica, Stara Kamienica.
According to the lwowecki.info website: – Preliminary information from the scene indicates that the impact itself was not strong and did not occur at full speed. Nevertheless, the passenger car was pushed several metres away and ended up in a ditch. One person was injured—the woman driving the car, who was placed in the care of medics.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 37-year-old resident of Lwówek County, drove into the path of the train for reasons that have not yet been determined.
– The conscious woman will be transported to hospital for further tests – said junior aspirant Olga Łukaszewicz, press officer of the County Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski.
The police are investigating the causes and circumstances of the incident. Firefighters from the Bolesławiec County State Fire Service Headquarters were also dispatched to the scene.
