The incident took place in the municipality of Nowogrodziec. Officers from the Bolesławiec traffic police noticed a driver who suddenly accelerated at the sight of a marked patrol car. – After a while, he drove onto muddy terrain, where he abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot – reports Senior Constable Łukasz Porębski from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
Traffic police officers were joined by officers from the Nowogrodziec police station. The 27-year-old from Bolesławiec County was arrested.
Spokesperson:
It turned out that the man had locked the vehicle and claimed that he had lost the keys while fleeing. He most likely hoped that this would prevent the officers from getting inside the vehicle and finding the drugs hidden there.
The reason for the driver's behavior soon became clear. – The man was subject to a court driving ban and a decision revoking his driving privileges. To make matters worse, an examination confirmed that at the time of the incident he was under the influence of narcotic substances – explains Senior Constable Łukasz Porębski.
Police officers from Nowogrodziec found several portions of methamphetamine in the man's wallet. Further actions led to the securing of additional drugs in the vehicle, under the passenger seat: marijuana, from which more than 200 portions could have been made, and several dozen portions of methamphetamine.
The arrested man was charged with failing to comply with a court driving ban, driving despite having his driving privileges revoked, and possessing narcotic substances. Once the police receive laboratory confirmation that the man was driving under the influence of drugs, he will face an additional charge.
He faces up to 5 years in prison.
