Today (Wednesday, February 11), a few minutes after 4:00 p.m., a tragic road accident involving a Renault truck and a Mercedes passenger car occurred at the 85th kilometer of the A4 motorway, on the section between the Legnica and Złotoryja exits.
Preliminary findings indicate that the truck driver, traveling from Legnica toward the border, most likely lost control of the vehicle. As a result, the truck moved into the left lane, then broke through the barriers separating the carriageways and collided with a Mercedes passenger car traveling correctly. After the collision, the truck ended up in a roadside ditch.
The truck driver was transported to hospital. The passenger in the car died at the scene.
The A4 motorway at the 85th kilometer toward Wrocław is completely blocked. A detour has been designated via provincial road no. 364 on the Złotoryja–Legnica route. One lane toward Zgorzelec also remains blocked.
Police officers, supervised by a prosecutor, and an expert in traffic accident reconstruction are working at the scene.
We appeal to drivers to allow extra time when planning their routes, follow the instructions of officers directing traffic, and use the designated detours.
