The incident occurred on Saturday, January 31, before 9 p.m., in Rudna Municipality, in front of one of the shops. Police findings indicate that the 29-year-old attacked the 51-year-old man without any apparent reason, stabbing him in the abdomen and hand before fleeing the scene.
After receiving the report, the duty officer at the Lubin District Police Headquarters immediately dispatched a patrol from Rudna and additional support to the scene. The injured man, who was in serious condition, was transported to hospital, where he underwent surgery. Doctors currently describe his condition as stable and not life-threatening.
Thanks to the officers’ swift action, the suspect was detained at his place of residence shortly after the incident. During a search, police found the weapon used in the crime—a bloodstained knife hidden in the man’s bed.
The detainee initially denied committing the offence. After the evidence had been collected, he was charged with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, an offence punishable by up to 20 years in prison. Due to his previous convictions for offences against health and life, the man will be prosecuted as a repeat offender.
At the prosecutor’s request, the court ordered the 29-year-old to be remanded in custody for three months.
