Late in the evening, the sky treated us to a colorful spectacle. Many people took photos of the northern lights. Residents of many regions of Poland had a unique opportunity to admire the northern lights, one of the most spectacular atmospheric phenomena. Colorful ribbons of light appeared in the night sky and were visible, among other places, from the northern and central parts of the country, and in some places also from the south, including Bolesławiec and the Bolesławiec County area.
The northern lights, usually associated with polar regions, once again appeared over Poland as a result of increased solar activity. A strong stream of solar wind, generated by solar flares, led to intense geomagnetic phenomena, resulting in colorful illuminations in the sky.
Residents of the Bolesławiec region reported that the phenomenon was visible to the naked eye as a delicate glow, while photos taken with cameras and smartphones revealed the full range of colors—from green through red and blue to shades of violet. The best viewing conditions were away from city lights, under clear skies and in the late hours of the night.
The northern lights over Poland are not a frequent phenomenon, but during periods of increased solar activity they may appear several times a year. Monday’s display was one of the most distinct and beautiful in recent times.
The stunning photos of the January northern lights seen from Parowa (Bolesławiec County) were taken by Łukasz Szuchalski. Thank you, and we encourage you to view Łukasz’s photos:
