“The Nutcracker” is one of the best-known performances in the world, returning to stages every year around the Christmas holidays. Through its plot and the music of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, the performance conveys the atmosphere and fantasy of this celebration.
It is the story of a little girl, Clara, who receives a nutcracker as a Christmas present. After playing and dancing around the Christmas tree, Clara falls asleep. The Nutcracker transforms into the handsome Prince Koklyush. The tin soldiers, dolls and other toys also come to life. Mice, led by their king, gnomes and snowflakes appear. Prince Koklyush invites Clara on a fantastic journey. Together they travel through the Land of Sweets, where everything is colorful, fragrant and delicious, and everyone is filled with joy.
Performances symbolizing various delicacies begin. Chocolate is represented by a Spanish dance, coffee by an Arabian dance, tea by a Chinese dance, followed by the Russian dance (Trepak) and the Waltz of the Flowers. In the end, however, Clara wakes up and, as happens in fairy tales, she is holding not a prince but a nutcracker in her arms.
This ballet is full of joy and hidden fears, hopes and disappointments, revealing to the audience the secrets of the world of a child’s imagination. The music, meanwhile, conveys its timeless magic.
The creator of this performance is its choreographer and ensemble director, Siergiej Radchenko, who for 25 years was the partner of the world-famous prima ballerina, Maja Plisiecka. He partnered her, among other works, in the famous Carmen (G. Bizet – R. Shchedrin). He is passionate about music and Spanish dance. He has also worked as a choreographer on many film productions.
The Russian National Ballet is an ensemble that has delighted audiences with its artistry for years, enjoys great acclaim and has consequently gained enormous popularity. Its success is due above all to its perfect classical dance technique.
The performance will take place on 9 November 2011 at 7:00 p.m. The organizers ask audiences to make reservations as soon as possible because the Forum cinema auditorium is small and there are many interested spectators. Tickets can be purchased at the cinema box office or reserved on the cinema’s website: www.kino.boleslawiec.pl.
